Daniel “Danny” Sawyer

Daniel Brooks Sawyer (Danny) was born February 22, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio. Danny was one of two sons born to Elizabeth C. Hinkle (Maiden name Brooks) and Louis Sawyer (deceased). Danny graduated from East Tech High School in 1960 and in 1961 he enlisted in the Army. He served faithfully for 3 years, until he received an honorable discharge. On a warm sunny day in August of 1964 Danny saw a vision of beauty called Juanita a. Jones. She was walking across the street and he almost hit her. That chance encounter lead to marital bless, which began March 27, 1965. To this union two sons were born, Keith Edward Sawyer and Daniel Brooks Sawyer II. Danny had a lots of jobs but his true passion was carpentry and wood working and although he did not pursue this as a full time career, he never stop enriching other with his gift. In 1964 Danny established his work career at White Motor Corp. He retired form there inĀ  1977 after refusing to relocated his family. In 1981 Danny worked at Lyons Transportation Lines until the company went out of business in 1986. In 1986 Danny worked for his eldest son (Keith) in the maintenance of department at Crystal Towers Apartment. In 1995 Danny took his final job at Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority at which time retired in 2005. Danny was a devoted husband, a Christian and a family man. His infectious smile made all around him happy. To those who knew him, he was witty, charming and a true gentleman. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Juanita A. Sawyer, his two sons Keith Edward Sawyer (Sharon S. Sawyer) and Daniel Brooks Sawyer II (Denovelie M. Sawyer), his two granddaughter Keisha S. Sawyer and Taylor B. Sawyer, his mother Elizabeth Hinkle, his brother Douglas Lee Sawyer (Suzy Sawyer) his three nephews Douglas Sawyer (Fee Sawyer), Dwayne Sawyer (Melissa Sawyer) and Jonathan Sawyer, his two goddaughters Deanna Jarvis and Marcelyn Saxton and a host of great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service Thursday, September 25, 2014 11am at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 17822 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, OH 44112. Family will receive friends at 1030am. Public viewing Wednesday, September 24, 2014 12nnon-7pm at funeral home.
