Vera Looney

Vera Hardison Looney was born December 18, 1911 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to the union of Walter Hardison and Mariah Hogue, both who preceded her in death. Vera was united in Holy Matrimony to Edward Looney, and to this union was born six children. Three children: Hardy, Vera Marie and Donald preceded her in death.

After their marriage, Vera and Edward moved to St. Louis, Missouri where they raised their children. She worked in the Housekeeping Department at Chase Park Plaza in St. Louis, Missouri from which she retired. Vera attended Washington Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church where she was a faithful member for over fifty years. She served on Washington Metropolitan’s Deaconess Board and helped in any capacity where she was needed.

In 1999, Vera moved to Cleveland, OH and joined St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church where she also served on the Deaconess Board until her health prevented her from attending services. “Mother Looney”, as she was affectionately called by her St. Paul Church Family, reading her bible, singing church songs, and watching football where she rooted for whoever was running with the ball.

Mother Looney departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 18, 2014 after a long illness at Cedarwood Plaza. She leaves to mourn her passing, but cherish her memory: sons Kenneth and Richard (Mary) of Austin, Texas; daughter Joyce Dennis (Harold Sr.) of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren Richard Edward (Nicole) of Pflugerville, Texas; Christie (Lee) of League City, Texas; Donald Looney, Jr. (Zabrina) and Harold Dennis, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri; many great- and great great-grandchildren her dear friend Lucille Self; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral service Tuesday, August 26, 2014 930am at St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church, 2393 E. 55th. Family will receive friends at 9am. Public viewing Monday, August 25, 2014 12-7pm at funeral home.
