Things to Do

APPOINTMENT:

Please call to make an appointment. This will ensure that the funeral director can give to you the proper care and attention you deserve and need.

TYPE OF SERVICE:

What of service type you would like for your loved one? Example: funeral service at a Church, a cremation with a memorial service, etc.

SERVICE DATE:

Please contact both the Funeral Director and Clergy prior to setting any date and time. This is very important, everyone MUST be on one accord before the actual date and time is scheduled.

PLACE:

Where will the service actually take place (the funeral home, church, hall, etc.)?

VITAL STATISTICS:

The information needed in order to complete the death certificate and other documents: Date of Birth, Date of Death, Social Security Number, Parents’ names, etc.

CLOTHING:

Organize the clothing you would like your loved one to wear. EXAMPLE of proper clothing: A MALE would require a suit, shirt, tie, socks and a complete set of undergarments. A FEMALE would require an outfit that has a high neckline, long sleeves (not sheer) and full undergarments (slip, panty, bra, stockings, knee highs or socks). Please Note…Clothing cannot be SHEER or SHORT SLEEVED. A SCARF is needed if the neckline does not have a collar or is low cut.

CEMETERY:

Please bring any deeds or receipts from any pre-purchase made at a cemetery.

PROGRAMS:

Someone needs to write an obituary (the complete life history). Try to include activities, organizational memberships, personal interests and hobbies.

PALLBEARERS:

Please have a list of the gentlemen that you have contacted to be the pallbearers.

WHO NEEDS TO BE HERE:

Everyone wants to help at this time, however, the funeral director needs to discuss personal and financial information. PLEASE, only bring those persons that will be instrumental in this process. NOTE: Children tend to get bored and restless during the arrangement process.

PAYMENT:

Decide how you will handle your financial obligation. If you plan to use insurance, please note: MOST insurance companies do NOT release information within the first 48-72 hours. Please bring ALL financial documents with you to the arrangement meeting.

NEWSPAPER:

The Plain Dealer requires payment up front for newspaper notices. This can be done with a major credit card. We can assist you with this process or you can call them directly at (216) 999-4860.

MILITARY DOCUMENTS:

Please bring all documents with you.
